Healthy Lunch Options
Living healthy means making good choices as to what we and our families eat each day. Here in Dallas, we are fortunate in that we have access to all types of fruits and vegetables year round. Sure there are always faster and easier options when you are short on time like a drive-thru or pizza. But are those other options actually faster? I mean when you go through a drive through, for the most part, it takes about 10-15 minutes before you are eating. Grabbing a healthy snack, like an apple or a bag of steamable veggies is almost always going to be much faster. You also don’t have to worry about the aftermath of eating fast food. It always tastes so good, but you almost always feel bad after eating it.
Packing your child’s lunch can be similar. Yes, there are easy and quick options like chips and fruit snacks, but why not go with carrots and sliced apples instead? Throwing a piece of candy or something made with sugar is okay every now and then, but if you do it less frequently, you might not have problems like getting the kids to go to sleep at bedtime or bad behavior in class. When you send a kid to school with money, it is almost guaranteed, that they will not make healthy choices as to what they will buy. Take an extra few minutes out of your week to stop by your local grocery store, and get the good stuff. Your kids will thank you, your spouse will thank you, and hey, you might even get to sleep on time. Make healthy food choices!
