Summer

June is the official month Summer starts in the northern hemisphere! Though it doesn’t officially begin until June 20th, it seems like Summer has taken a head start on the calendar for us in North Texas. As the days will continually get hotter, there are a few things to take into consideration when thinking about your family’s health.

Drinking water is absolutely necessary when the Texas sun beats down on us. Hydration is key to staying healthy in hot, humid weather as we sweat far more during this time of year than any other time. Sweating can lead to dehydration, so keep drinking fluids during the day!

The sun can also do a number on your skin. Be sure to wear proper protection from those pesky UV rays so that you don’t get burnt! Wear long sleeves and hats if possible, but if it’s too hot as it most likely will, sunscreen should do the trick. Please protect your skin as too many of the sun’s UV rays can cause a number of problems for that precious skin of yours.

Take a dip! Keeping your body cool is also essential for proper summertime wellness. Too much time outside on a hot day can cause your body to overheat, which can create a number of health problems. Be sure to stay indoors when it’s too hot out, or hop in the pool if you have your swimsuit! Obviously if there isn’t a pool around and you are outside for a while, a nice patch of shade will do to cool off a bit.

Even though summer is a fan favorite, make sure you enjoy it in the healthiest way possible!
