Cervical Cancer Awareness

Did you know that January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month? Each year, almost 13,000 women in America will be diagnosed with cervical cancer. However, research has now shown that cervical rate may be completely preventable with vaccinations for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and early screening measures, such a PAP smear exams. The HPV vaccine occurs in a series of three shots, and is recommended for young women prior to becoming sexually active. Though the vaccine series is recommended to start at age 11 to 12, it may be given up to the age of 26 Unfortunately, the completion rate of the 3-shot series may be as low as 32%.
